Gary Lasker, CPA, CFE

Education

Gary earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from Illinois State University and earned his MBA in accounting with honors from the Walter E. Heller College of Business Administration of Roosevelt University. He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Chartered Retirement Plan Counselor.

Experience

Gary Lasker has over twenty-five years of experience in public accounting at national and local firms. He has conducted audits of companies in a variety of industries. He joined Bass, Solomon, & Dowell, LLP in 2006 as an audit manager and became a partner in 2010. Among his responsibilities at Bass, Solomon & Dowell, LLP are overseeing compilation, review, and audit engagements and evaluating financial statements and related accounting work for compliance with applicable professional standards. Gary regularly provides services to employee benefit plans, nonprofit organizations, manufacturers, distributors, and service-based businesses. Additionally, he consults with and advises clients on tax, accounting, and business matters.

  • Technical review and preparation of financial statements
  • Structuring financial statement presentations, business plans, forecasts, and projections
  • Performing audits, reviews, and compilations of financial statements
  • Advising owner/management on strategic planning, operational issues, financial and tax concerns
  • Consulting with client management on internal control and fraud prevention issues
  • Conducting fraud related investigative audits
  • Preparing operational and procedural reviews of internal control
  • Evaluating adequacy of internal controls
  • Analyzing financial performance of operations
  • Delivering financial results presentations to not-for-profit board of directors
  • Consulting with management on financial reporting and accounting systems
  • Due diligence appraisals and assessments
  • Advising on various methods to reduce corporate and individual taxes
  • Planning and performing Agreed Upon Procedure Engagements

Throughout his career, Gary has served clients in many different industries in roles as an auditor, accountant, tax advisor, and as a consultant. He has comprehensive hands-on experience in many aspects of accounting, auditing, tax preparation & research, fraud examination, and business consulting for nonprofit and for profit organizations.

Activities and Associations

Gary is a member of the Illinois CPA Society and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). He is also a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He regularly attends continuing education courses in a variety of areas including auditing, corporate taxes, fraud, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and internal controls.  He received the Certificate of Educational Achievement from the AICPA after completion of their IFRS Certificate Program and earned the AICPA’s Intermediate Employee Benefit Plans Audit Certificate.
