Education

Mike was a graduate of tiny Alden-Hebron High School in Hebron, Illinois.  Even though it pre-dated his athletic career, he proudly recalls that his small school won the Illinois state basketball tournament in 1952 with a victory over Quincy, in the days before there were different classes to separate the teams based on school enrollment.  Mike gained his undergraduate degree in accounting.

Experience

Mike has over 45 years of experience with national and local public accounting firms. Mike began his career at a national accounting firm, providing primarily tax services to businesses and individuals.  Looking for an opportunity to grow professionally and make stronger connections with his clients, Mike joined forces with other CPAs and eventually became a partner at the public accounting firm Berg, DeMarco, Lewis, Sawatski & Co.  The firm was purchased by RSM McGladrey, but after a short period of time Mike left McGladrey in 2001 and formed the firm of DeMarco, Kinnaman, Lewis & Co.

The type of clients Mike serves have also evolved over the years, and now include individuals, trusts and estates, and businesses of all entity types.  Mike spends much of his time consulting with his business clients on recent tax legislation, tax strategies and compliance, accounting issues, and business strategies.  Mike also consults with individuals and prepares and supervises the preparation of individual income tax returns.  Included in that group are high net worth clients and their trusts taxation needs.

Activities and Associations

Mike is a member of the AICPA and the Illinois CPA Society.

Mike is an avid golfer and spends much of the remainder of his time enjoying his large family and, in particular, cheering on his grandchildren in their various athletic pursuits.
